Oakland Gold is a special needs dog with an ongoing medical condition. She is diabetic, requiring insulin injections and blood glucose monitoring, as well as a special diet. She just had her second birthday and we hope she will have a long life ahead of her with proper care.

Her symptoms started suddenly in late March. She stayed at the clinic area of Lake City Animal Hospital (LCAH) for a month receiving treatment and going through the process of getting her insulin dose regulated. If you are diabetic or know someone who has either Juvenile Diabetes or Type 1 Diabetes, you understand that this regulation takes time. You also know that this is expensive and is not quickly done.

Gerry and Dan Skalsky generously offered their home as a foster for Goldie and she has been there since the end of April. The link to her blog is at the top of this page and Gerry is posting almost daily and includes some wonderful pictures so we can see Goldie’s spirit and her personality. She is fighting to get better!

Treatment and monitoring of Oakland Gold cost over $1,000 while she was in LCAH -- and this is with the deep discount that Toby gave to SEGA as well as not charging us the boarding rate that applies when dogs are kept in the clinic area of LCAH. This was a wonderful donation of his time and expertise.

Goldie may have the potential for living out a good life with treatment and ongoing close monitoring with a vet. We want to give her that chance.

But we need your help as her vet bills are very high and are still ongoing.

We are setting up a "Gold for Goldie" fund to help offset her medical expenses so that we can continue to treat her and get her to the point where she is stable. Your donations to help Goldie are appreciated.
