IN MEMORY OF SABRE CERRETA
(January 18, 1992 - November 17, 2000)

EYES ARE THE WINDOW INTO THE SOUL
When first I looked I saw eyes of fear
As we grew you attached so near
Eyes of respect, then trust, then love
By now you fit like a well-made glove
As time passed on you evolved and grew
Those eyes now said there was no other like you
Regal and royal are words we choose
Yet these words are too few to use
Dignity, distinction, uncannily smart
These fine words are only the start
A brother, a leader, a wise man - it's true
Yet all these words do little justice to you
These
eyes belong to the child I chose
These eyes belong to my child in dogs’ clothes
Eyes
of love so deep, so rare
Eyes of love I can no longer share
Once in a lifetime this pain I will bear
For these are the eyes of a soul so rare
Our souls are one this joy I claim
But without those eyes I will never be the same
